About Dr. Raque: Experience and Philosophy
Hello and welcome. I am a clinical psychologist with 50 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. Over the decades, I have discovered that every person and relationship is unique, and each deserves a thoughtful and flexible approach to therapy.
My practice is grounded in the latest research, and I always strive to balance this with practical solutions that meet you exactly where you are. Through learning and applying various therapeutic approaches, I adapt my methods to fit each person’s unique dynamics, issues, and circumstances. Building a therapeutic alliance where you feel comfortable and trust is established is my top priority.
I believe therapy should reflect your individuality. I blend evidence-based techniques with a warm, personalized style, focusing on what works best for you. With half a century in clinical psychology, I have had the privilege of supporting people from all walks of life. I know that lasting change is achieved not just through understanding concepts, but by applying them in ways that fit your unique story. My approach is collaborative and down-to-earth, designed to help you transform insight into tangible progress.

Couples Therapy: Building a Partnership Based on Connection
The story of Susan’s and my professional collaboration was actually born following my health crisis at age 46 in the wake of my heart attack. After my recovery we began discussing how we could work together helping other people who had experienced cardiac events and their spouses. This led us to developing and copywriting “Heart of the Matter,” a stress reduction program we co-conducted for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for 20+ years until Covid. The format consisted of three hour workshops, where we taught about the role of stress in heart disease, guided meditation and facilitated group therapy sessions with patients and their spouses.
After Susan completed her Masters in clinical psychology, we decided to team up again. For the past seven years, we have provided premarital counseling and couples therapy. Our approach is shaped by relationship theory, scientifically researched and informed by our own personal journeys. While we have found elements of the Gottman approach the most practical we have learned and incorporated elements of other couples approaches tailoring them to what we think works best for each couple.
Our work draws not only from our professional backgrounds, but also from our personal experiences. By facing the challenges of divorce, parenting, and stepparenting ourselves, we understand the complex realities that today’s modern couples and families encounter. We use these experiences to offer guidance that is comprehensive and compassionate, helping you build stronger, more rewarding relationships. Rather than adhere strictly to one theoretical approach, we integrate a variety of methods, most closely resembling the Gottman Method.
If you are ready to take the next step, we invite you to reach out and begin a conversation. We look forward to getting to know you and working together toward a healthier, more fulfilling life. |
